Splash!

Our Memorial Day weekend consisted of water.

The kind that comes from the sky and leaves big puddles...
SPLASH!
...and the kind in the pool...
SPLASH!
Happy summer kickoff!

Music Monday

Palmer might be a budding famous musician and is interested in most things music.
He especially loves to play the guitar at home, although he is convinced that a hat is necessary when one strums.  Any hat will do, by the way...a fedora, a construction hat, a sombrero, a baseball cap...I could go on and on.

Enjoy a typical jam session at our home:

Every day is a birthday in Palmer's (or "Monner" as he calls himself)) world and "Happy Birthday" is always a favorite:

And imagine the delight when a recent play date with a buddy turned into afternoon band practice.  The duo is considering taking their show on the road soon.

No, grandparents.  This is not a solicitation for a drum set.  Thanks, anyway.

Playing in the Yard

One of the beauties of my new schedule is more afternoons outside in our yard with neighborhood friends.
As I so regularly brag, I love my neighborhood.  Period.  There are so many young families with kids playing outside.
We knew it wouldn't take Palmer too long to realize the amazingness of two cute twin girls living next door.  Palmer has so much fun with our three-year-old neighbors, Lily and Kate.
He regularly yells from our backyard, "GIRLS!  Do you want to play with me??"
Luckily, their mom said the feeling is mutual and they have been spying on our yard from their window to see if Palmer is outside.

The twins' mom and I split this amazing roller coaster for fun outdoor playtime.

We're trying to bask in the wonderful weather as long as possible before the century temps kick in.

Let's Pretend

We've been seeing a little bit of Palmer's imagination lately and it's so fun to see what's inside that little mind.

Mainly...cars and "work".  (Hmm.  Sounds like the older male Jordan in the family...)

Palmer has been big on pretending to leave the house and "go to work".

He makes sure to don his hat and sombrero "backpack" and keys before leaving the home.
 "Work shoes" are also important.
Especially when you wait for your coffee at Starbucks.
The other day, he told me he was "going to work".  A few minutes later I heard the door open and close and what did I see, but a little boy trying to get into the car.  A few seconds later, he came back in to get his shoes.

A typical conversation between Palmer and me:

Palmer: "Mommy, I'm going to work."
Me: "Where do you work?"
Palmer: "I work in an office with an elevator."
Me: "What do you do for your job?"
Palmer: "I ride the elevator and get a snack and play golf."

Let me give you some context.  When Palmer goes to visit Rick at his office, he gets to play with the putting green in Rick's office and get a snack.

In fact, I bet Rick is busy playing golf and eating cookies right now.  That's what you do at "work", right?

Big Boy Room

As mentioned earlier this week, I've been stocking up for awhile on Palmer's new big boy room decor.  I wanted to keep a lot of the nursery essentials, but just slightly transition from baby to little boy.

My theme is blue and red.  I know. Not exactly a theme, but I really just picked items I liked and threw them together.

For example, first I found this blue/white striped seersucker and chambray comforter.  (Yes, it is eerily similar to the crib bedding.  What can I say?  I'm consistent with what I love.)  I bought this comforter when Palmer was about six months old.  ha!
I plan to get the comforter embroidered with a thick red border like this inspiration picture.
By the way, did I mention the bed was Rick's bed as a little boy?

Next, I found these great whale sheets.  I was going to add a fish rug, but couldn't pass up the wonderful star-spangled floor covering when I found it.
Flea market finds completed the room details.

Like the sailing flag that hangs at the foot of the bed....
...and this wonderfully colorful grain sack from Waco...
I came across this adorable paper airplane strand made from book pages and thought it would be perfect for the ceiling.
And since we already have airplanes hanging from the ceiling, why not add this great wooden airplane Rick's dad gave us.  Palmer loves to tell people about "the airplane in the sky" in his room!
I replaced baby clothes hanging from the hooks with a cool flight jacket Rick wore when he was Palmer's age and an adorable fedora our dear friends, the Cordells, gave Palmer for his birthday.
Palmer is tickled about his new room and has had success all week in the new bed.  He's gone right to sleep and slept thru the entire night.
Cross your fingers this transition continues to be waay easier than I anticipated!
