As you likely know, we do birthday parties in our family every other year. On the off year, we celebrate the child's birthday with a special activity/outing instead. The kids seem to enjoy the off year just as much as the party year.
We started the day with birthday donuts (and a few burnt curls that got too close to the flame)...
Grace spent the entire time in my lap raising her legs high into the air and pretending to be on the stage. We left at the 9pm intermission and I'm sure the people behind us were happy to see us go. Grace had plenty of questions about, "Why did we leave Sleeping Beauty sleeping in the woods?" Oops. Maybe one day you will be old enough to stay up for the entire production, little gal! :)

...a sweet card and some Shopkins from a proud older brother...
...and a mermaid-dressed, princess goggle-wearing, bike-riding birthday girl.
At school, Grace rejected my class treat ideas for cupcakes, donuts, or cookies. Her idea: marshmallows to share with her class. Cheap and easy! Done and done!
This year for Grace's birthday outing, I took her with another friend and mom downtown to see a ballet production of Sleeping Beauty.

Happy birthday, Miss Grace.
