Big Boy Room

As mentioned earlier this week, I've been stocking up for awhile on Palmer's new big boy room decor.  I wanted to keep a lot of the nursery essentials, but just slightly transition from baby to little boy.

My theme is blue and red.  I know. Not exactly a theme, but I really just picked items I liked and threw them together.

For example, first I found this blue/white striped seersucker and chambray comforter.  (Yes, it is eerily similar to the crib bedding.  What can I say?  I'm consistent with what I love.)  I bought this comforter when Palmer was about six months old.  ha!

 I plan to get the comforter embroidered with a thick red border like this inspiration picture.

By the way, did I mention the bed was Rick's bed as a little boy?

Next, I found these great whale sheets.  I was going to add a fish rug, but couldn't pass up the wonderful star-spangled floor covering when I found it.

Flea market finds completed the room details.

Like the sailing flag that hangs at the foot of the bed....

...and this wonderfully colorful grain sack from Waco...

I came across this adorable paper airplane strand made from book pages and thought it would be perfect for the ceiling.

And since we already have airplanes hanging from the ceiling, why not add this great wooden airplane Rick's dad gave us.  Palmer loves to tell people about "the airplane in the sky" in his room!

I replaced baby clothes hanging from the hooks with a cool flight jacket Rick wore when he was Palmer's age and an adorable fedora our dear friends, the Cordells, gave Palmer for his birthday.

 Palmer is tickled about his new room and has had success all week in the new bed.  He's gone right to sleep and slept thru the entire night.

 Cross your fingers this transition continues to be waay easier than I anticipated!
